Big Bass Boat
Big Bass Boat is one of those games that sneaks up on you. It looks like a simple tap-to-cast fishing app, but there's a surprising amount of feel underneath. You steer a small boat across a handful of lakes, watch for ripples and bird activity, then pick a lure and cast. The reeling minigame is all about tension: pull too hard and the line snaps, go too gentle and the fish slips free.
What won us over is the pacing. Sessions can be two minutes while you wait for a bus, or forty minutes if you get lost chasing a big catch across a foggy morning lake. The controls are one-thumb friendly, with a tilt option for steering that actually works well once you get used to it. Upgrading your rod and boat feels earned rather than rushed, and every new lake introduces different fish behavior you have to learn.
It's not flawless. The menus are a little cluttered and the tutorial dumps a lot on you at once. But the core loop of scanning the water, making a read, and slowly reeling in a stubborn bass is genuinely satisfying. It's the kind of quiet game we kept reopening long after the review was done.
What we liked
- Relaxing but genuinely skill-based reeling
- Great one-handed controls and tilt steering
- Distinct fish behavior across every lake
