Games that respect your one free thumb
Half the time I play games on my phone, my other hand is busy. Holding a rail, a mug, a sandwich. So I've built a real appreciation for games that work with a single thumb.
The trick is control design that doesn't fight you. Big tap zones, forgiving timing, and no menus that demand pinpoint precision. Racing games with tap-to-drift work great here, as do turn-based RPGs where you're mostly picking from a list.
We put together a short list this week of games that pass the coffee test. What they share is a designer who clearly thought about how people actually hold a phone on a train.
My advice: before you sink hours into a game, try playing it one-handed for five minutes. If it's a mess, that tells you something about how much the developers cared about comfort.
